Villa
The Vaarinkallio villa is a magnificent and refreshing 218 m² log house located on the shores of Lake Pielinen. The solid log walls keep the house warm while allowing the structure to breathe naturally, without the need for plastic membranes. The villa features a single-sloped roof and large windows, creating a bright interior that reveals the beautiful Koli hills and lake views from multiple angles. Vaarinkallio is designed to offer space for different people – whether together or alone. The rooms are better soundproofed than usual, ensuring everyone can rest peacefully in their own time.
Those seeking refuge from technology can retreat to the loft to read, while fiber-optic internet ensures effortless connectivity whenever needed. Pizza can be baked in the fireplace oven, in a regular oven, or in the microwave. The interior may vary depending on the guests. And if you are curious enough, you might discover the Big Dipper in more than just the night sky. The villa is based on Kuusamo Log Houses’ Saapunki model, modified by raising the roof to create additional loft space for a second floor.
Hall
The hall forms the heart of the villa. The floor is made of beautiful Spanish stone tiles, and underfloor heating keeps your feet pleasantly warm. The over two-meter-high fireplace with its baking oven offers playful flames to enjoy on frosty days. At the center of the room, a classic red sofa set adds a touch of color to the space.
What could be more relaxing than sinking into a sturdy armchair and gazing at Lake Pielinen through the floor-to-ceiling windows?
Kitchen
The kitchen is designed primarily for cooking and enjoying life. Vaarinkallio is equipped with tableware for twenty people, making it easy to host and dine elegantly even with a larger group.
The kitchen offers plenty of cupboard and counter space, along with a large refrigerator and freezer. A dishwasher makes cleaning up faster. The knives are of excellent quality, and just a few strokes against the sharpening steel will ensure they slice through ingredients effortlessly.
Panorama Sauna
In the sauna, you can sweat away the day’s thoughts and relax completely. A large window opens up to the lake view, and it’s easy to step out onto the terrace to cool down. The stove’s white natural stones provide rich, steamy heat.
Kiss Shower
The shower is a cleansing experience, with gentle rain falling from above while you admire art. The wall is decorated with a tiled version of Klimt’s masterpiece The Kiss.
There are two showers, one of which is equipped with a wider rain nozzle.
Movie Room
In the upstairs movie room, you can watch films or play games. There are also two beds downstairs, and on the loft, two mattresses placed side by side. Additional mattresses can be found in the loft’s sleeping nook.
Red Room
A downstairs bedroom near the kitchen, featuring two beds and a view of the front yard.
Large Bedroom
The downstairs master bedroom has a wide double bed, along with a baby cot and extra blankets and pillows. A high chair for children is also available if needed.
Cabin Room
Downstairs there is a bunk bed for three – always space for friends.
Atelier
The atelier is, quite literally, a workspace for an artist, researcher, inventor, or writer. Upstairs, you can enjoy peace and focus on your own creative work. The lake and forest views shift slowly before your eyes, carrying your thoughts forward – and sometimes sideways. A writing desk, bookshelf, sofa, window, and solitude provide the perfect setting for your work. The sofa bed is designed for one person, but when company is welcome, it can accommodate two.
